GYEONGJU – Seokguram Grotto
Posted in photos, travel on 09/11/2010 04:55 pm by CeDyou reach the grotto after a 15min walk along a nice and refreshing path through the forest, ideally covered by trees, a relief !
A beautiful 3.5m high buddha sits in the middle of the grotto. As the humidity and air is tightly controlled to protect the place, it is forbidden to enter inside the chamber (with one exception : on the birthday of Buddha, when authorities remove the glass wall).
Below are three shots of the colorful prayers hanging all around the grotto. more infos on wikipedia

Originally built in 750, it was destroyed, burned down during Japanese occupation in 1592-98 and later restored by Japanese during World-War II (although some treasures seem to have disappeared..) and finally restored by the Korean government to its current state. full details here
